Following an introduction into High Performing Teamwork from HPD’s Ruari Chisholm built on the lessons he has learnt over the years working with professional sports teams, the military and the business world, Mark Denton a leadership expert and international award-winning speaker, will take you on a roller-coaster of a journey, through the up’s and downs, twists and turns of leading a diverse amateur team in the ‘world’s toughest’ round-the-world yacht race.
However, rather than giving you all the answers, you’ll be working in teams to solve some of the challenges he and the team faced, whilst also be competing against the other teams in your own virtual race around the world! So not only will you be learning about the challenges of leadership and teamwork in a fast paced, highly competitive, constantly changing environment, you’ll also be experiencing it for yourselves!
This will then be followed by a highly interactive session into how to build the foundation of high performing teams, psychological safety, based on the research by Harvard Professor Amy Edmondson’s ‘Fearless Organisation’, Mark being a licensed UK Partner.
There will also be a chance to hear how else HPD can help you develop individuals, teams and leaders within your organisation, as well as tour this perfectly located Venue!

Our Speakers
Ruari Chisholm
Managing Director – High Performance Development
Ruari specialises in designing and delivering leadership and teamworking programmes for organisations within the public and private sectors, as well as international sports teams.
He started his career as a full time sportsman representing his country in sailing. Ruari then moved on to join the Royal Marines where he gained invaluable experience working in, and leading teams within a challenging environment.
Ruari now works in all areas of leadership and team development and specialises in experiential training.
Mark Denton
Senior Consultant at HPD & round the world yachtsman
Mark is a Senior HPD Consultant, leadership expert and celebrated keynote speaker with vast experience navigating turbulent waters. In his former professional sailing career he’s competed in countless races and sailed over 80,000 miles across the worlds’ most hostile oceans. The pinnacle was leading a diverse amateur team to success in the ‘world’s toughest’ round-the-world yacht race, the BT Global Challenge 2000-01.
Mark also draws on 20+ years of consulting with some of the worlds’ greatest organisations, helping to reshape their cultures and improve their resilience to deliver better, faster and more sustainably.

Holiday Inn Guildford hotel is ideally located along the A3, only 2 miles from the town centre.
Guildford station is nearby, and trains reach London in under 45 minutes.
The conference centre provides business guests with fantastic facilities, including 15 meeting rooms with up to 200 capacity.
